lillian13 | Oh, my knee!

Last Wednesday, I went to my podiatrist, since I felt that my orthotics weren't fitting as well as they had been. He looked them over, took new x-rays of my feet, and made me little cork inserts to go under the heels of my orthotics. (They are less than 1/4 inch thick in the back.) He also tells me that I have arthritis in the tops of my feet, which, combined with my information that I now have diagnosed arthritis in my hands, made him a bit worried. OK, I'm seeing my doctor/brother in a couple of weeks, I'll bring it up with him then. I walk out with the inserts in and thing nothing more of them. By the end of Thursday (loading in for IkkiCon, lots of heavy boxes to move), my right knee was starting to be unhappy with me.

By Friday my knee was in agony. (Actually the muscles that run right behind my knee.) It wouldn't bend properly and the pain was....well, not fun. I took out the inserts and started mainlining naproxen. Working the show was difficult but doable. Luckily or unluckily, it wasn't too busy, but getting up and down, not to mention walking, was all kinds of not fun.

Monday and Tuesday were even worse. I bought a heating pad, which helped quite a bit at night. I finally texted my brother and he told me to come in. More x-rays, this time of my knee, which he was pretty unhappy with. (Gee, I have arthritis there too. And yeah, I need to be exercising more, but I'm not going to while my knee hurts every time I use it!)

So I now have a Monday appointment with the orthopedic guy who operated on that knee almost 4 years ago, and a week of steroids to bring down the swelling. I'm going to try calling my podiatrist again to see if I can get copies of my feet films to take with me to my appointment, and I plan on asking the ortho guy if I should see a rheumatologist.

The steroids are helping quite a bit; I was able to walk most of the day before my knee started hurting. (Oh, yeah, it's now ALL THE MUSCLES SURROUNDING MY KNEE, since they all have been taking up the slack from the ones in the back. Yay.) I took one of the pills right before I went to bed last night and boy, did I have some weird dreams. And I kept waking up. I'll be taking my last pill a few hours before bed tonight. :-)

I did make it to the farmers market today and got more Wonderful Bacon, some local olive oil, still more pecans, and some green garlic and carrots to make soup with tomorrow. I had a good afternoon with my friend L. We are now trying to find a gym that we can both get to easily that we can afford so we can work out together! I took down my Christmas lights and took out a lot of trash and cleaned the porch. Now I need to put up all my foreign coinage I've accumulated for jewelry. Y'all stay warm now!
