A Call for Opinions
Apr. 6th, 2007 12:48 pmYou see, I have a show this weekend. I'm selling my jewelry. It's two days, outdoors, in San Antonio. Normally this is not a problem.
The weather forecast for the weekend:
Saturday: Periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 49. Northeast wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
Saturday Night: Periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 36. Northeast wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
Sunday: A slight chance of showers before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. Northeast wind between 5 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
So, I called the people putting this on. "But it's so nice outside today!" exclaims the show lady. I explain the facts of, you know, rain and wind on most of the tents that will be there. EZ-Ups, the most common brand used at shows, are not waterproof. They are at best water-repellent (I did coat mine with spray-on water-repellent the other day). They also tend to take off in high winds. 25 mph classifies as a high wind, trust me. She allowed as how she had had several cancellations, and I could move into the fenced area because of this... "Why don't you call at seven tomorrow morning?" I can do this, I say, except I would already be there, after having gotten up before 5 AM to make the hour-and-a-half (plus) drive. "Oh," she says doubtfully. "Well, we've only canceled once that I remember!" (At this point I'm getting a little frustrated.) "You know," I say, "if the weather is bad, no one will come out." (Unlike most shows, they charge a minimal amount for the booth and get 10% of my sales.) "Oh. Hmmm." *headdesk*
Saturday is going to suck, big-time. Sunday? May be OK. Could suck.
Sales would be nice, but I'm not supporting myself on this. And If I cancel, I'd only be out the $30 for the space. But I hate, hate, hate, backing out on a show.
So, should I stay or should I go?
I am lame and have no polls. Talk to me!
