 Um hey...been a while.

I'm mainly on tumblr..https://www.tumblr.com/blog/bylillian

So, I'm 51 today. Not feeling it--I've been kind of down lately, thinking about my sister who died just about 2 years ago. Now all I have as a direct relation is by brother, and we don't communicate.

ANYWAY. I've had some very good shows. SoonerCon was good and shows signs of being one of those cons that will get better the more often I am there. I have ArmadilloCon in a couple of weeks, and I do pretty well there too. I keep being asked to do one day pop up shows outdoors and I'm all NOPE. No more outdoor shows until the fall.

Spencer Cat got into something last night. I've been letting him out in the evenings; he usually runs around for a bit and then just lounges on top of my car. Last night he was coughing a little and today I can see scratches on his head and ears. He's kind of grumpily curled up in the smaller cat bed, but he did eat last night and he did come out to supervise the AC guy this morning. So I'll keep an eye on him.

Work is...work. I'm starting to sniff around in the job market, since I don't have a hope in hell of advancing much here and I'm really bored with the actual job. I've been here 15 years though, hard to break that habit.

Going to see Minions tonight with J & L. Will celebrate with the family after the World's Best Niece and Her Fabulous Finace (they're getting married next year!) come back from Comic Con. I am soooo jealous. I need to go back next year.
lillian13: (Death and Death and DEATH)
Well, I asked and was gifted: the Austin Municipal Court rescheduled my court appearance for the 14th of July. So I don't have to spend half of my birthday dealing with traffic court, which is awesome.

Birthday plans continue apace--if you live local to Austin and want to come, the party is at Mr Tramps on July 10 from 7-9. Presents totally optional but loved (as I am 12).

I now have new glasses! They are very hipstery:

Yes, that is chain detail at the temples. I am such an old metal nerd.

POSTCARD CALL! I'm going to San Francisco in a couple of weeks and I'll be finding and sending postcards. Let me know if you want one. (You can message me your address if you've never gotten a card from me or if your address has changed in the interim.)

House.... )
Cancer... )

On a lighter note, my birthday week (aside from crappy sister-related news) has been...interesting. I was massively stressed out before the inspection, but I did make it to the gym both days this week. My trainer is greatly supportive and he was shocked to learn I was turning 49--he swore he thought I was 39! Nice ego-boost.

Had dinner at my favorite place--24Diner--on my birthday with my niece, her Hot Boyfriend, and my brother. Went next door to Waterloo Records afterward and bought my They Might Be Giants ticket for the October show. Thursday I saw Pacific Rim with [personal profile] dremiel and OMG it's amazing. I really want to see it in IMAX now. Had dinner tonight with L & J. Got many random fun cards and some nice prezzies.

I also got into FenCon as a dealer this year!

Tomorrow I'm helping my friend Karen move and then into the workshop I go. I have a Steampunk Gathering on Tuesday and I need to add to my inventory. Plus, it's good therapy to make things.

...so, it's just as well I backed out of the house deal, huh.
lillian13: (old woman)

....this makes 46. Huh. The scenery doesn't change much.

Over very lovely Whole Foods mousse cake and Mexican (aka made with real sugar) Cokes yesterday afternoon, it was brought home rather forcefully* that we are hiring folks young enough to be my kids. If I had kids. Anyway, somehow someone mentioned the last time we had Real Snow (1984-ish), and I replied that I was in college at the time and had a great time sledding all over a local golf course. Then that person mentioned he was 4 or so at the time, and  saw our youngest member mouth "I wasn't born yet." Ah, well.

Anyway, I will be going out to dinner with my friends L & J, and tomorrow going to see Predators at the Alamo Drafthouse with the fam. That's after I hack a new path through the weedy jungle out behind my workshop. I am kind of tired of getting burs in my hair. Plus the vines are making a real assault on the back door.

* Even more forcefully than a couple of weeks ago, when I replied to something a co-worker said with, "Well, when I was 14 I couldn't imagine owning a cell phone." To which she replied, "Me either! Kids weren't allowed to have cell phones when I was a kid." (Heh. When I was 14, we barely had cable TV and blow dryers. Cell phones? Not even on the horizon.)
lillian13: (when you fall you fly)

Good god. I'm 45. And it's the 21st century. Why aren't I vacationing on Mars?

I have no idea what I'll be doing to celebrate--I know I'm going out for Indian food either tonight or tomorrow, and I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow. Woo hoo!

It's supposed to be 104F today.  According to the National Weather Service, it was 105F on the day I was born. Hm. This is indicative of something, I'm sure.

Weird things what happened on this day:

1913Death Valley, California hits 134 °F (~56.7 °C), the highest temperature recorded in the United States.

births:
John Calvin, French religious reformer (d. 1564)
Friedrich August von Quenstedt, German geologist (d. 1889)
Adolphus Busch, German-born brewer (d. 1913)
Donald Sinclair, British hotel manager, inspiration for Fawlty Towers (d. 1981)
Bobo Brazil, American professional wrestler (d. 1998)
Jerry Nelson, American puppeteer
Zoogz Rift, singer/songwriter and wrestling booker
Tom Meents, American monster truck driver

Anyone know of any other obscure facts?
lillian13: (birthday)
You know, I've done this for a lot of people, but never me. Well, me and [personal profile] sandy_s, that is...

lillian13: (Default)
Someone gifted me with an LJ gift certificate. Decisions, decisions!

Got my first birthday card in the mail today.  Yay for birthday cards!

...you know, for someone in her *cough*midforties*cough* I'm going to be celebrating my birthday in a very juvenile way. And I like it. (Thanks to [personal profile] dremiel for having the idea!)

...does anyone have this CD? (Specifically, I'm looking for his version of "The Stars and Stripes Forever".)

More glass pics tomorrow.  Only 2 more classes! Woe!

lillian13: (Default)
Happy, happy birthday to my lovely friend [personal profile] dremiel.

Many cool things happened on this day, besides her birth. But I think her birthday is the important one. :-)
lillian13: (Default)
Sorry I'm running so late today. I will post (hopefully) tomorrow about how this week has been like having a crazed, rabid weasel shoved down my pants....

lillian13: (OMFG)

Well, I had FIVE DAYS OFF. Did I accomplish anything I had planned? Not so much. :-)

I did sneak into another jewelry class in order to get the Box From Hell closer to being finished. I have gone through my library, as it is long overdue for a good culling. (I think I'll have a little sale in front of my apartment next weekend.) I mopped. I shopped; replacing the (sob) really good Liz Claibourne shorts I wore to work all the time--they ripped right across the butt in the wash last week. I went to dinner. I saw no movies. I watched a lot of rain. Mostly, I slept and read and watched TV. This is probably the longest I've had off with (almost) no responsibilities--i.e., work or family--in several years. I think it's been good for me.

[personal profile] lillian78 gave me a virtual stack of prezzies! My first birthday present!

Here is my usual silliness about her birthday!

lillian13: (OMFG)
Sorry I'm running late today! Everybody had to get everything done today--end of the quarter, right before a long weekend....I was at the office until 8:30 last night and barely escaped for class today. Good grief. I know it's after your birthday where you are, but what the heck.

Anyway--here's your day!

HOPE YOU HAD A MOST EXCELLENT DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
