This is a bit different from the last one I did.

As my button used to proclaim, "Oh, no! Not another learning experience!"

The Large Jewelry Project is eating my brain. I'll need to go in and use the classroom on Saturday (go by and hope the class isn't full). Today, in a double fit of idiocy rarely seen in this or any other universe, I managed to not only:

Break 1/2 of my box by stressing the miter joint, breaking the "L" into two rectangles

but then

While I was soldering the two pieces together, I nudged the setup I had holding the bottom half of the "L" at a right angle to the larger piece  so it fell over making a flat, soldered sandwich.

I didn't scream, cry, or swear. I may have burst something vital in my skull keeping all of that inside.

*facepalm*

Fortunately, my instructor (who has the patience of a saint, I swear. Must make him brownies!) was able to heat the damn thing up and tease the pieces apart, so I spent the last 1.5 hours of the class flattening and straightening the pieces, filing off solder, and cleaning up the miter joint so they can be put back together. And since I've lost so much time I can't be as fancy as I want to be with the lid, so instead of 2 hinged lids that are at an angle (like the roof of a house), I'm going to solder a butt joint with the two tops and make a flat lid. Damn it. I will, however, add the cute woven wire interior wall if it kills me.

The other 2 women in my class section are making all of this fun, gorgeous stuff. I'm sweating blood over something so outside my comfort zone (large, precision piece) it isn't even funny, and I just want to smack them. *sigh*

We're taking a break from our big projects next week: starting filigree! ( I get to melt silver into an ingot and roll it out into wire on the rolling mill!) But I'll be working on the Box From Hell, because I still need to solder the sides to the base, solder on the top, cut the whole thing apart, make and install hinges, etc. etc.
