First show of the season done
May. 2nd, 2009 09:38 pmThe Violet Crown Festival is a nice, low-key neighborhood thing, with a dunking booth and spin art and such for the kids, inexpensive (good) food and drink, and a bunch of us crafter/artist types. The woman who organized the artists did a very nice thing--everyone had a corner booth in order to maximize sales, which required me to to a quick re-shuffle of my usual setup, but it worked well. I didn't even bother to put the sides on my EZ-Up--it was intermittently windy, and I needed the breeze. (Yes, we only got up to about 83F today--it was very muggy and towards evening it was threatening rain. It didn't, yay!)
The Nephew came out and helped me unload and setup, and even parked my car for me. He came back at closing and did a great job of helping his exhausted aunt pack up and load the car. The heat and humidity really took it out of me! Then I took him to have Chicken and Waffles for dinner, with sweet tea. Delish! Then I unloaded the car, uploaded all of my credit card sales, and (finally) took a long, cool shower. Ah, bliss...
Sales were down almost a full third from the fall show in that neighborhood, and 15% from the same show 2 years ago (they didn't have a spring show last year). I hope that's as far as my sales fall. I did make enough to cover my booth fee for the Austin Celtic Festival and ArmadilloCon, so I'll call it a win.
I have a slight sunburn, I saw a ton of friends and co-workers (including one from a past job, who was swell to catch up with), met a ton of lovely people and their dogs/kids, and made some money to boot. I'll take it.
