Here's a sampling of the cooler things I found at the local coin show this afternoon. The one on the far left has a manx cat on it (from the Isle of Man, natch). There was no way I could resist that brontosaurus (it will always be a brontosaurus to me) , and I just loved the top right one with a hot-air balloon on it. I'll have to come up with a suitably steampunk setting for it. Met a fellow jeweler at the show and we chatted a lot as we went through the various bins and folders. We know many of the same people, which just proves how small the vendor/maker community is here in Austin.
I got up early today and went over to the lab to set up my work area. My chair is missing. *sigh* Someone must have taken it over to the Bunker, the building where they stage the haunted house from. I'll put out the call but in the meantime I'll have to use a folding chair. Not tall enough, but...
Went to Home Depot and got a fan, a couple of extension cords (you can never have too many good extension cords), and a couple of those double-hole concrete blocks. I'm going to use the blocks to raise the kiln up so I don't have to bend over quite so far to use it. The fan is because we don't have A/C and it's routinely hitting the low 100's in the afternoon.
Had a lovely sweet (grapes and pecans) chicken salad sandwich and blackberry pie at Tootie Pies Cafe. Everyone who works there now knows me by sight. *facepalm*
Came home and I was *dripping* It's 105F out there right now. And it isn't even officially summer yet. I swear, by August we'll have people spontaneously combusting in the streets.
