Boy, am I tired....

Niece, her friend, my friend G and I went to the Texas Renaissance Festival yesterday. The weather cooperated--it was only sunny for a couple of hours, and while it was pretty hot and humid, later in the day there was a nice breeze and a teeny bit of rain. I spent a lot on food ($2.50 drinks really add up if you want to stay hydrated!), and bought a few little things for grins. Fell in love with a weapon at Angel Sword, but since I didn't have $2500, I reluctantly had to walk away. The joust was a lot of fun, but we didn't watch too many of the shows--we were much more interested in shopping, eating, and hanging out. (Good food: the etouiffe, the strawberry shortcake, the pork sandwich, the cookie cone, the sorbet, the excellent kettle corn, the baked potatoes. The not so good: chicken breast on a stick, the cajun shrimp (mostly potato chips!), the iced tea (very watery), the ice cream (meh). None of us felt like getting the traditional turkey leg or steak on a stik, but I do regret not getting the waffle topped with fruit and whipped cream or the chocolate-covered strawberries on a stick.)
Man, there was a lot of imported crap at the show. It used to be all hand-made, and really cool. I'd say over 50% of the stuff I saw was imports. Most of the clothing, a large percentage of the jewelry, and all of the low-grade weapons are buy/sell. The good stuff is there, (like Angel Sword or Bald Mountain), but you have to look for it. It's almost certainly due to the huge size of the place. When I used to come out regularly in college, it was about half the size it is now. (One nice part about the larger venue is the truly wonderful bathrooms. They are large enough to be navigated with large skirts, clean, and have no lines. A great place to splash your face.)
I did get some nice pictures (actually the niece got most of them), and a couple of good display ideas. I kept up with my tradition of going places with G--we did eventually run into someone I know. (She says no matter where we go, we always run into someone I know. heh.) We stopped at the Southside Market in Elgin on the way back and I bought some sausage, which I will savor all week. Mmmmmm, sausage.
Please, weather gods, bring us a damned cool front! 90F+ in September is a bit much, since we never really had summer (too busy raining on us).
