Robert Lynn Asprin, writer, fencer, one of the founders of the Dorsai Irregulars, passed away unexpectedly this morning. The cause of death is not yet known.

Damnit.

We had grown apart over the last several years, but for a while there, I saw him on a pretty regular basis, and I counted him as a friend. We both loved fencing, and movies with swordfighting, and good scotch (when I used to drink recreationally), and the Animaniacs and Tiny Toons. We could (and did) talk for hours about the damndest things. He taught me a lot about art (and how to sell it at auctions), and a lot about standing up for myself (Saying NO 101).

You'll be missed, Bob.

ETA: He was feeling tired after his plane trip to Marcon, so he went to take a nap. When they went to wake him for lunch, he was already gone.

I have known Bob since he first came to his first Texas Convention, Pirate Con in 1979. My brother, sister, and I were on the con committee and we spent a lot of time with him over the years until both my sister and I got too ill to do many of the conventions.

Please drop me a note in my LJ when you hear about the funeral arrangements. I need to spread word on this so that those who want to send flowers can do so. Thanks.
