In light of the Fanlib scandal, I give you Cory Doctorow's thoughts on fanfic and the writers thereof.
Also, I find myslef strangely hungry and not to able to concentrate since my dietician had me start limiting my carb intake. I mean, I'm the original breadbasket hog, always willing to have rice or pasta...now I'm almost scared to look at them. (My triglycerides were on the low end of high. My cholesterol is still somewhere around my ankles and we have no family history of diabetes, thank my genes.) If anyone has suggestions, I'd like to hear them.

They cut back the carb cravings by quite a bit. Might be work trying -- let me know if you want to go see him.
Also -- remember that your body is used to burning more carbs than protein or fat. So the enzymes that process p/f are slowly building, as the body switches over from excess carbs enzymes. Takes a couple of weeks.
A third thing -- there are some doctors suggesting that if you measure your resting respiration, you'll know what your resting burn rate for the day is. You divide by six, and eat six small meals (like, 300 calories for someone whose resting is 1800...) so your body never has a chance to get hungry. South Beach does something similar -- their snacks are substantial. Any exercise you do, including slow walking for an hour, will burn a lot of calories -- real burn.
If it's any consolation, since I dropped simple carbs from my diet (except chocolate...it must always be somewhere) my triglycerides are through the floor. I'm the healthiest chronically sick person you'll ever know... ;^)
