First workout

I now have a membership at the YMCA. Yay!
I went back into the swimming pool to do laps for the first time since....hmmm. College? Probably. A verra, verra long time ago. I lasted 10 lengths of the pool (250 yards), and took 20 minutes (with breaks to catch my breath) to do it. I was exhausted afterward. But not sweaty!
I'd forgotten a couple of things I really disliked about swimming: in freestyle you have to keep turning your face to breathe, which I hate, and getting out of the pool is like going from .5 to full gravity. It sucks. However, I still have my stroke chops, and on the advice of another returning swimmer I may use the swim fins sometimes.
Chlorine sucks. I did buy some swimmer's shampoo and conditioner. I have very clear memories of having green hair in junior high, when I was on the swim team. Never again.
My lovely new suit is rinsed and drying in the shower. I need to remember to bring a comb/brush next time, and a larger towel.
Tomorrow, I'm thinking beginner yoga.
:-)
