First workout

I now have a membership at the YMCA. Yay!
I went back into the swimming pool to do laps for the first time since....hmmm. College? Probably. A verra, verra long time ago. I lasted 10 lengths of the pool (250 yards), and took 20 minutes (with breaks to catch my breath) to do it. I was exhausted afterward. But not sweaty!
I'd forgotten a couple of things I really disliked about swimming: in freestyle you have to keep turning your face to breathe, which I hate, and getting out of the pool is like going from .5 to full gravity. It sucks. However, I still have my stroke chops, and on the advice of another returning swimmer I may use the swim fins sometimes.
Chlorine sucks. I did buy some swimmer's shampoo and conditioner. I have very clear memories of having green hair in junior high, when I was on the swim team. Never again.
My lovely new suit is rinsed and drying in the shower. I need to remember to bring a comb/brush next time, and a larger towel.
Tomorrow, I'm thinking beginner yoga.

Date: 2008-01-08 04:54 am (UTC)I think you'll like yoga. I do reccomend the swim fins. And get yourself some prescription swim goggles (they're only about $30) from Great Outdoors or REI. As for the swimmers hair it helps to wet your hair first and then comb a little conditioner through before you swim.
p.s. The Boy wants to know how you're enjoying your new Wii!

Date: 2008-01-08 04:24 pm (UTC)You can borrow Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz. The maun game is too hard for me (I know, pretty lame) but there are 50 "mini-games" that are jsut about my favorite things on Wii. The snowboarding, fencing, and darts in particular. Excite truck is a pretty good racing game (I crash a lot). And there's always Dance Dance Revolution!
