Let me preface this by saying I am not a practicing Christian of any flavor. :-) So, no fasting on Ash Wednesday, etc., etc. (Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] dremiel!)

Lent always struck me as "Resolution Lite". It's only 6 or so weeks, after all! Much easier to handle for the tough ones.

I'm giving up fried food. I did this several years ago, but the siren call of fried shrimp lured me back in. This will help with my overall resolution* to get healthier this year; I'm already working out on a regular basis, and I'm making a real effort to avoid bad snacking.

Hee! Pancakes!

*I actually set my New Year's resolutions by the Asian (lunar) New Year. It just feels easier. Plus, I can get over the holidays before I start anything new.

Carrots! Baby carrots and clementines and other munchy fruit and vegetables are the best snacks. And good on you for the exercise! That's probably the best thing you can do for yourself.

I'm not much for Lent per se since I'm still in my hate-all-religion-all-the-time phase, but I sympathize with the shrimp. I stopped eating seafood about three years ago for ecological reasons and shrimp has been the hardest thing for me to give up.

Hee! You ARE Pancakes!

Sweetie,You KNOW I don't care if you fast Im just happy i got through the day without biting anyone. It's not so much the not eating as the not eating while making breakfast, lunch, and a snack for The Boy. Of course the whole office ordered Mangia to eat during the staff meeting, too. And there were GS cookies.

Me, I'll make resolutions at New Years, Chinese New Year, Lent, Birthdays, solar eclipeses, Rosh Hashanah...I'm ALL about new beginnings!

How weird that I decided to give up fried food too. For me it's Dave's fried pickles that will be the hardest! (or sweet potato fries at Phil's, sob). I'm also giving up buying new books *GASP* . No, really - I have more than six-weeks of to be read and I've only checked out 2 library books so far in 2008 (hides in shame). I can exercise a little restraint!

Just 6 weeks of to-be-read? I have most of a bookcase...between work and classes and making jewelry and everything else, my reading time has dropped considerably. Doesn't stop me from buying books, though...

Fried pickles at the Drafthouse will be hard to give up, along with chips (fried) and salsa at Chuys.

*laughs really hard* Oh dear no. I mean that LENT is only six weeks long so I couldn't possibly run through the stacks.

Well you know, technically, Sundays are not part of Lent.
