Once I got back in the rhythm of the hospital it wasn't terrible. Food was OK, nurses ranged from excellent (day shift) to not so much (night shift). Went off Norco the second day, since all it did was make me very very groggy (well, it did kill the pain).  Dealt with many of the same physio, etc. folks as last time. They seemed to remember me fondly, which was nice.

I was worried about pain issues when they removed the nerve block, but the only pain has been around my drain area. (I got to start my second day off getting that bad boy out.) It's a bit sore, but nothing I can't deal with.

There was a pleasant surprise on Saturday. When you're being discharged, a series of specialists comes and checks up on you. One of those was my internalist, who used to work with my brother. He kept coming in and checking up on me even though he didn't have to. We shot the shit a lot, and he seemed genuinely concerned about my health--which he called excellent. The orthopedic surgeon that came to check on me was very tall and oddly familiar.

His name read Dr. Jeffrey Padalecki. I looked up (way, way up) at him, and asked if he was from San Antonio. When he said he was, I asked if he had a brother who was an actor. His answer: "Yes, I'm the smarter, taller, better-looking brother." Glee! My nurse asked if he'd gone to Madison High School. Her husband went to school with Jared! They had a good time talking about high school for a bit, and then I asked if I could take his picture. He seemed vastly amused but complied.

I have now met all the immediate members of Jared's family (mom, dad, sister, brother) but not the man himself. *sigh*

Now I'm home, ensconced in my recliner or in my CPM, dealing with annoying cats and some of the nicest (cool and rainy) weather we've had in months. I should be able to take off the dressing tomorrow and I'm setting up my home physio then.
