My best friend, Thomas, just let me know that  his younger brother Michael died of a heart attack last night. I'm not sure how old Michael was, but if it was over 40 I'd be suprised.

I didn't know him particularly well, but he was my best friend's little brother. He had a dry sense of humor and was a smart guy. I keep remembering how nervous he was when Thomas got married--he almost forgot the rings when I went to pick him up!

Crap. What a way to start the week. I keep getting weepy, and I think most of it is sympathy tears for Thomas. But I knew Mike, he was younger than me, and if he'd taken better care of himself he'd still be alive.

Boss has said I can take some time off today. I might, but I should save that for later in the week, to help out Thomas and his wife, who are flying in tomorrow.

I keep swinging between sadness and anger. Not at Mike, for Mike perhaps?

He was smart and sweet and very funny and this totally stinks.

We're around tonight if you feel like coming by later - obviously fine if you don't.
