Well, I saw my doc today and the upshot is that I'm doing a sleep study this Saturday night. (Oddly enough, the night before Valentine's Day is not booked up.) It ought to be interesting if nothing else. Maybe we can figure out why I'm so darned tired all the time, and I'll be able to stick to an exercise regimen and lose some weight.

I still need to buy my plane tickets for my trips this summer--I have to grab my niece so we can coordinate flights for the trip to Comic Con. I just got my tax refund so I can cover both without it hurting too much, but I need to get it done so I'm not tempted to blow it on tools or silver!

Speaking of which, I set my first stone in a prong setting today. As my instructor said, the prongs were all over the place and too thin, but it was a decent first setting. Maybe I won't be too terrible at this after all.

Bleargh. I slept ALL DAY. Literally, I was asleep for almost 18 HOURS. Yesterday, I kept falling asleep at my desk, and I called my jewelry teacher and told him I wouldn't be there. I felt really bad about leaving my team in the lurch at work; we already have someone out sick.

I just ate for the first time in 24 hours (though I remember getting up and taking all my meds, so go me).  I haven't had a fever or anything like that--just pure tiredness. I have a doctor's appointment next week so I'll bring it up then.

I plan on going in tomorrow, since I have a ticket to see Jonothan Coulton! In a small venue! And I refuse to call off work and then go do something fun, since it seems like cheating.

I don't even feel like taking a shower or anything, It shouldn't be hard to go back to bed tonight either.

Bleargh.

Since I took an extra day off, I decided to take care of some business. I called and cancelled one of my credit cards that I had emptied on a balance transfer. The CSR was very nice, and tried to do her job (get me to transfer the balance back for a very low rate), but I held firm. This is the card that raised my rate to insane levels after a late payment and wouldn't lower them again. Now, I no longer make late payments, but the attitude I always got from them still puts my teeth on edge, over 6 months later. So I very politely said no.

Time Warner, my old cable provider, tried calling me with the "you only have basic cable! OMG! We must help you upgrade!1!!1!!" spiel. When I informed him that I had in fact cancelled my Time Warner and was going with AT&T, he got rather snotty. Why did I leave? I wasn't going to pay TWC $120 a year to rent their box. This kid practically called me a liar (we don't charge that!), so I just repeated myself and hung up. C'mon, people, get your facts straight before you cold-call, 'kay?

Then I went to cancel my TiVo. I really, really didn't want to do this. I luv my TiVo! But it just wasn't working with the new content provider, so with a heavy heart, I called. I'm glad I did. The very nice lady with a very strong Deep South accent (mine came back after 60 seconds on the phone with her), walked me through everything I can do right now, with only 1.5 hands (I may have to rearrange cables later), and made me promise to call back when I was able to move equipment, since they knew how to set everything up with AT&T, which makes me very happy. The AT&T DVR is...ok. But it is most emphatically NOT TiVo. So, I still have TiVo.

Washed my right hand in the shower this morning; still looks icky. TWELVE stitches, running partway up my palm. Bruises on my palm look like I had a handful of dark blue ink at one point. No bleeding, and no real pain, though I imagine that's mainly due to keeping my wrist straight. The few times it flexed a little in the shower I sure knew about it! My handwriting is awful; I'm trying to write around a hunk of plastic across my hand. Everyone who has to deal with my marked-up copy at work will just have to be patient for a couple of weeks.

And it took me 5 minutes to put on my bra this morning. Hmph.

My lovely friend G took me to get all the packing removed today. I was/am handling things better, even though it took me almost 10 minutes to put on my $&^ bra. I even scooped out the cat box!

When they took the bandages off, I was a little shocked. I was expecting a teeny scar, and instead I have this great big incision--I swear it's 2 inches long--surrounded by very dark bruises. It was a little off-putting, to say the least. I am down to the World's Biggest Band-Aid and a full wrist/arm brace, to keep my wrist from flexing. The brace is plastic. Even with the "socks" they gave me, I sweat like crazy in this thing. The weather being hotter than normal here for, say, August, isn't helping either. I go back in two weeks to get stitches taken out. I can start slooowly flexing the wrist next week.

No working out this week, but I can do lower-body next week. I should probably pick up some terry wristbands to block sweat from running down my arm.

Good news about the glass blowing class! The instructor says we'll be watching demos and getting instruction for the first few weeks, so I should be healed up enough when we get to the actual glass-blowing. Yay!

Ripley the cat has been very nice to me--sleeping next to me on the couch, etc. It's so hot she doesn't even ask to go outside. Bleah.

Surgery went fine, no nausea. Went to lunch and Toy Joy afterwards with the World's Best Niece.

I have about 4 lbs. of bandages/splint on my right hand. They are hot and heavy and annoying. It took some doing, but I showered this morning. I have to keep the hand upright--they gave me a big piece if foam to use to stay upright. I have to keep it upright at night, which means I have to use the foam AND sleep on my back. I hate sleeping on my back. The pain is minor, not worth the vicodin I was prescribed. I can't even go outside for any length of time, as it's 99F, and they frown on getting the bandages soaked in sweat.

As I am VERY right-handed, this has been a real workout for my poor left hand. Hopefully I'll have enough use of my right hand after they take off the bundle tomorrow--I need to wash clothes, for one thing.

And I knew my brother is a good writer;   this just proves it.

...this entry took me 25 minutes to type. Oy vey.

Going in for carpal tunnel surgery this morning, so it might be a few days before you hear from me.

Surgery is at noon; I have to wake up a little before 6 am to take my meds and drink my last drink until I get out of surgery. (I plan on going right back to sleep, but if I post at 7am you'll know what happened. ) I've been picking up and cleaning up, since I will be one-handed for a few days. It should be interesting, at least! I have Monday off from work, but my boss seems to be easy with me taking another day if I need it. Hopefully, I won't.

I get the bandages/splint off on Monday morning, and my first PT. I really hope I'll feel like working out that day, since I'm making a real effort not to let anything throw me off track this time. Just a couple of weeks of 3-4 days a week is working wonders on my blood pressure!

Doctor says I can take in my iPod, so just in case I loaded the last 4 eps of Torchwood on it. We'll see, I may be too spacy from whatever they give me in the OR, but at least I can listen to my choice of music. Any suggestions as to genre?

World's Best Niece is providing transportation. She is so cool.

In light of the Fanlib scandal, I give you Cory Doctorow's thoughts on fanfic and the writers thereof.

Also, I find myslef strangely hungry and not to able to concentrate since my dietician had me start limiting my carb intake. I mean, I'm the original breadbasket hog, always willing to have rice or pasta...now I'm almost scared to look at them. (My triglycerides were on the low end of high. My cholesterol is still somewhere around my ankles and we have no family history of diabetes, thank my genes.) If anyone has suggestions, I'd like to hear them.
